First semi-final:

I liked Iceland and Finland best.

Switzerland: ‘the pronunciation could use some work’, our commentators said. That was an understatement.

Albania looked like she was crying for the mothership to come and beam her up already.

Was Israel’s keyboardist drunk or did the song just amuse her that much?

Russia needs to win for sheer cussedness.

Second semi-final:

I love how, after days of listening to everyone on Dutch TV lie through their teeth about our chance of getting to the finals, I switch to Belgian TV and they immediately go “yeah, we’re expecting you guys to fail”. So refreshing. For reference.

Serbia is my favourite tonight.

Sweden, Lithuania, what is it with your dances that don’t fit the song at all? Lithuania’s one-handed hand stand was cool though, I’ll say that.

It took me a moment to remember that Adam Lambert is American and therefore can’t sing for Norway.



As you can see, this is not a post of great substance. In other news, we have a baby magpie in our back yard! It's incredibly cute, but I kind of wish we could just put it back into its nest (we can't, it's too dangerous), because what if it doesn't learn how to fly?! Or its parents abandon it before it does?!

Went to the Elf Fantasy Fair this saturday. Had a ton of fun. Came home exhausted and chilled to the bone. I don't even want to think about how my friend Astrid felt. I had my winter coat zipped up all day; she was wearing a bellydancer costume, which basically amounted to a bra with gold frills and a shiny skirt. Crazy woman. Lovely, but crazy. :P

I'm sad the LARP battle has apparently degraded to a bunch of kids running around on a tiny stretch of grass, with no organizers in sight. The battle at the old Elysium field used to be one of my favourite events. :( And those poor people with cloaks and long dresses... All. That. Mud. @_@ Stupid rain.

Anyway. Rain and lack of a LARP battle aside, I had a good time! I got to ride a camel and sat in on a cool concert (there's nothing better than watching EFF folk dance), and got a book I was buying signed COMPLETELY BY ACCIDENT. I'd been on the fence about buying the book when I first spotted it, but decided later in the day that now that I was there, I might as well go for it. So I went back to the book stand, walked in, and grabbed a book from the pile. And then I looked up - and saw Robin Hobb sitting there. I went "OH WOW HI" because I had NO IDEA she was supposed to be there, but she just reached for the book and asked for my name. So now I have a signed copy of The Inheritance & Other Stories. XD (I admit that That One Evil Article crossed my mind... but I decided to ignore that thought, because when am I ever going to get a book signed BY ACCIDENT again? And it would've been rude to refuse, you know. XD )

And then, when I got home and cracked the thing open at the "Also available from this author" page, I had a minor aneurysm because THERE IS A FOURTH BOOK IN THE FARSEER TRILOGY?! AND IT'S CALLED "MOLLY!"?!!!!!!

Actually, no, there isn't. "Molly" is the name of the fourth part of the comic adaptation of the Farseer Trilogy. *throws ROCKS wrapped in rotting fruit at the idiots who A) made that mistake and B) didn't catch it before printing* *and kicks them too*



In other news: Being Human S4, YOU ARE DISOWNED. I HATE YOU. I hate you so much. ;____; Why would you do that?! ( cut for spoilers )

Fringe, on the other hand, OH MY GOD. *FLAILS* This episode. WHAT HAPPENED? FRINGE, WHAT DID YOU DO?

Had I mentioned my newfound love for Fringe yet? Like, the whole thing? The lovely, lovely ongoing plotlines. Olivia being a Big Fucking Hero and forestalling the "you're being too emotional, woman" argument, after which the show never brings it up ever again. How Peter totally belongs with her, no matter what fuckery they and their universe(s!) are faced with. Walter's mix of heartbreaking and hilarious. How Broyles is just so outwardly forboding that he constantly has to remind his subordinates that hey, I think you're awesome, stop wasting time passionately defending your rulebreaking and get back to asskicking. Nina Sharp being Totally Evil in every alternate reality and drug-induced haze they can come up with. Brown Betty, full stop. Agent Lee and Captain Lee. Astrid and Alt!Astrid. Over There. Over Here. Ella. The cow. EVERYTHING. My love for Fringe, IT IS SOMETHING QUITE PROFOUND, HAR HAR.

Seriously though, I think I might cry. This is so wonderful. ( spoilers for ep 04x19, WHICH MADE MY HEAD EXPLODE )

That wasn't very coherent, but oh well. Korra then. I like it! Just a few quibbles:

Last but not least: I'm gonna see The Avengers on wednesday! And again at some point together with Astrid and another friend. No waiting and hoping that the internet doesn't spoil every little detail for me! I'm the one in a position to do that for a change, however temporarily. SUCKS TO BE YOU, AMERICA.

I wrote this like a year ago as a kind of celebration because I'd finished the entire Universal Century. Except that I hadn't finished the entire UC - there was still aaaaaaall the manga left, and Unicorn had just come out. And now there's still aaaaaall the manga left, and I'm saving Gundam Unicorn for when it's all finished, because I do not have the patience to wait... what, half a year? between each installment.

Once upon a time, NOT VERY LONG AGO, I swore that I would never ever ever EVER touch superhero comics, regardless of how hard I fangirl the superhero movies they've spawned. They are a bottomless pit, a black hole of stories with no end and no resolution ever, and most of them look fugly anyway. There must be at least a dozen witnesses.

And now I've read "Thor and the Warriors Four".

And it was the most ridiculous, hilarious and adorable thing I've read in ages. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
